Fire Rescue Department Overview
- Serving Demopolis
Protecting Our Community
Our department strives to remain NFPA compliant while providing the highest level of service to our community. If you are experiencing an emergency, call 911 immediately.
Each year, the department responds to approximately 1,200 emergency medical calls and 400 fire-related calls.
Incorporated on July 14, 1817, the City of Demopolis encompasses 18.6 square miles and has a population of approximately 7,168, with an average age of 37. The city is one of the most densely populated communities in Marengo County. Residents primarily live in single-family homes, multi-family housing, condominiums, and assisted living facilities. Our goal is to save lives, protect property, and ensure every firefighter returns home safely.
We are proud to work alongside a Mayor and City Council who are committed to the safety of our citizens and provide the resources our department needs to carry out its mission. We are equally grateful for our dedicated firefighters, whose commitment to serving our community makes that mission possible.

A Legacy of Service
Since 1870, the Demopolis Fire Rescue Department has proudly served the community with a commitment to protecting lives, property, and the well-being of residents and visitors. From its beginnings as a volunteer fire company to today’s professional fire and rescue department, generations of firefighters have answered the call with courage, dedication, and service.
While the department has grown and evolved over the years, its mission remains the same: providing dependable emergency response while adapting to the changing needs of the community.
