Revenue Division
The Revenue Division takes great pride in building relationships with The City of Demopolis businesses. We understand that opening and operating a business can be a bit overwhelming and difficult at times – that is why we are here to help. Our division responsibilities include issuing business licenses and collection of various taxes. Most of all, our major responsibility is assisting you, our business community.
The City of Demopolis Revenue Division is open from 8am to 5pm, Monday – Friday. This division provides assistance to new and existing businesses, issues business licenses, and collects the following taxes:
Gas Tax
Tobacco Tax
Auto Sales and Rental Tax (contact revenue@demopolisal.gov for payment instructions)
Liquor, Beer and Wine Tax (contact revenue@demopolisal.gov for payment instructions)
Business will pay the following taxes to the State:
Sales and Seller’s Use Tax
Consumer Use Tax
Rental Tax
Lodging Tax

Business License Applications
Businesses physically located within the City Limits of Demopolis or in the police jurisdiction must be licensed by both the City of Demopolis and by the State of Alabama. Business licenses are required and the cost for the business license is based on the type of business plus a $14.00 issuance fee. Please contact the Revenue Department for the cost of the business license.

For Existing Business Licenses, please contact the Revenue Clerk at 334-289-0577 or email to revenue@demopolisal.gov.

City Sales Tax Rates
The total amount of sales tax in the 9.0% (4% to the State of Alabama, 3% to the City of Demopolis and 2% to Marengo County). At this time, the City of Demopolis does not collect tax in our Police Jurisdiction.

Surplus Vehicle/Equipment Sales
The City of Demopolis periodically posts items online at www.GovDeals.com as they are declared surplus and made available for sale. Bidders can register at www.GovDeals.com and you can view surplus items available for sale.
Bid Information
Vendor Registration: Vendors may register with the City by contacting the City of Demopolis.
E-Verify: To register your company for E-Verify go to www.uscis.gov/everify.
Advertisement of Bids: Bids are posted on the bulletin board at City Hall and published in the Demopolis Times newspaper. Bids may also be posted on this website. For information regarding open bids, you can also contact the City at 334-289-0577.
